What is parallel or synchronizing system of diesel generator sets?

With the continuous development of power generator, diesel generator sets are used more and more widely. Among them, the digital and intelligent control system simplifies the parallel operation of multiple small power diesel generators, which is usually more efficient and practical than using a big power diesel generator set to meet peak power demand. Through the parallel connection of multiple diesel generator sets, customers can adjust the power capacity of the company’s construction sites, hospitals, schools, factories and other sites up and down according to the load demand. Of course, the output of the parallel diesel generator sets must be synchronized to increase the output capacity.

Traditionally, in common power applications, a diesel generator with sufficient power output was selected to operate all the tools and equipment required for a job site, factory, etc. However, running several smaller diesel generators in parallel may be a more efficient and versatile solution.

Parallel system means that two or more diesel generators are electrically coupled together using special equipment to form a larger capacity power supply. If both generators have the same power, it effectively doubles the power output. The basic premise of paralleling is to take two generator sets and connect them together, thereby combining their outputs to form a theoretically larger generator set. When paralleling generator sets, the control systems of diesel generator sets need to “talk” to each other. From MAMO POWERs years of experience, probably the most important thing to get two generator sets to produce the same voltage and frequency is to have them produce the same phase angle, which basically means that the sine waves produced by the generators peak at the same time, and there is a risk of damage if the generators are out of sync or let one of them stop generating electricity.
